This the the image that was on a recent birthday card to me: I'm so offended! I am a very uptight, stodgy, stick in the mud, conservative LADY. How dare someone give me a card like this! PS. NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two untimely deaths... very sad

Image
This past Thursday, we lost a two special souls. Joe Mojica and his 6-year old daughter Jeanie were killed in a car accident. Joe was a member of our herp group. He was a kind soul who loved his kids, his wife and his animals. Joe had been fighting and winning a hard battle with esophageal cancer. His recent bouts with the nasty side-effects of long-term prednisone use had battered his body but not his spirit. His love for his daughter was always evident and all his kids were his life. He will be greatly missed. Here are a few news stories about the accident: Thorndale journalist, daughter killed Accident near Thorndale claims two lives Here is a website setup in his honor: joemojica.com The funeral will be next Saturday, May 19th at 1pm. I Love To Teach - creating good dogs is a pleasure

Image
A friend recently adopted a rescued Rottweiler "puppy". I put puppy in quotes because this doggie is 6 months old and already weighs 65 lbs! It's paws are like bear paws!!!! Anyway, my friend didn't realize that I trained dogs. So I offered to run a few dog-training classes for him so we could work on basic obedience. He's very interested in teaching the dog hand-signals , which is my forte. We talked about some basic stuff during my visit. Since this pup is so large and will eventually be a beast, maintaining the alpha position will be imperative for the humans in the house. Here's an article I wrote about training for the alpha position. I'll be starting the class soon. For my local friends, if you read this and are interesting in bringing your dog for a refresher course, I'll be sending out emails when I schedule the class. Should be fun... No charge as usual! (But dog-cookie tips are welcome!)

More Famous!

Denise said... You are even more famous than that, my dear. Go to http://www.blogher.org and click the health & wellness topic on the left side of the page. Then, look for Year of the Dog. :-) 12:00 PM The WillaWoman said... Wow, you're right! Here's the actual post: http://blogher.org/node/1084 Here's the comment: "Finally, my favorite service dog blog, The WillaWoman. She never wanted a dog, until she became disabled. She's training her third service dog and she's amazing. She shares dog training tips, fantastic dog anecdotes, tips for dealing with disability and more. I think I want to be The WillaWoman when I grow up." ................... I never realized I made BlogHer! This is such a wonderful comment. Kewl!

Famous

I Googled myself today. Here's what I found. I found this post on someone else's blog , someone I don't even know: Dogs, much cooler than technology. At least I think they are. The Willawomen is in the process of training a service dog named Frankie and blogging it. Interestingly enough Willawomen was not a dog person, well, not prior to suffering a disability. It should be interesting seeing how things develop between the two of them. Check it out. Kewl! Then I found this here : listening to: Willawoman, Crazy (Make Me Crazy remix) don't know willawoman? go forth and hear . she trains service dogs too Then this : So what did end up in the blogroll? Mostly interesting writing, or a sense of humor similar to my own. Sometimes I was caught up by a view of life in another country. Sometimes it was a way of life alien but not unfamiliar to me (Check out Willawoman as an example). Each weblog I added was, at least at the time I read it, both familiar enough without...

My Prodigy

This weekend I had some very fun guests, including my prodigy Lara and her pup Jack (the Boston Terrier). The kewlest part of our visit was when Lara started giving dog training advice to another of my visitors. Ahh, the passing of the torch!

No Pity Shirts

Image
I was thinking about offering disability-related t-shirts on this site, but I did some searching and found a site that already offers some great stuff. The site is: No Pity Shirts - " The best disability-related and motivational stuff in the galaxy! " I plan on ordering the shirt that says "Gee, I'm tired. I'd love a Wheelchair. It's easy, just break your neck"! It rocks! I can't tell you how many times I've heard this when I was waiting in a long line: "Gee, I wish I could sit down too." Some of you blog readers have asked me about what's appropriate to say or do with a wheelchair crip. THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE! Nuff said.

TMI

A conversation I had today: She: I went to the beach this weekend, but I didn't have much fun. Me: Why not? She: The person I was with liked to lay on the beach all day. I don't like to lay on the beach anymore. Me: Why not? She: Because I don't like sand in my vagina. Me: [cracking up]

Sad

Today, one of my best friends moved back to NY. Here, I'll make this dog related: he said goodbye to all three dogs individually, and he's not really a dog person. I'll miss you buddy.
