Can't we all just get along?

Lizards aren't cuddly, are they?
You tell me.

This is Ken, Baby Doll's new mate... hopefully.

This is Cutie Pie, Junior's new mate... most likely!

Here's a close-up of Cutie Pie

This is Cutie Pie's and Jr's first date! I think it's love... so far, so good!

Ok, here's the story.

As most of you know, I raise reptiles. I have 2 snakes, I breed Leopard Geckos, and I have a toad and two Prehensile-tailed skinks.

Well, now I have FOUR Prehensile-tailed skinks!

My first two skinks were Baby Doll (female) and Junior (male). I had thought that they could live together, but it turns out that even though they are both the same species (prehensile-tailed skinks, aka Corucia zebrata), they are different sub-species.

Baby Doll is Corucia zebrata alfredschmidti (my spell check is going nuts right now!), and Jr is Corucia zebrata zebrata. (Here's a link if you want to read the technical stuff.)

Needless to say, they did NOT get along at all. They literally would try to kill each other.

Long story short, I recently got each of them mates! (Thanx Kisha!)

Cutie Pie is Jr's mate. She's about 2 years old and is really a cutie pie.
Ken is Baby Doll's mate (get it, Ken and "Baby" Doll??!!).

I've already introduced CP to Jr with what appears to be great success. They've met on neutral ground so far and exhibit normal behavior. Not too much biting or aggression. Yay.

Ken and BD haven't met yet... so we'll have to wait and see if they get along.

X your fingers!

I had a beautiful MTS named Arthur, who looked very much like your Ken, for about 10 years. He passed away 2 years ago. I have no idea how old he was, I bought him from a pet store because he looked like he was dying. As it turned out he was very ill but after a trip to the vet he began to turn around. To this day I miss him so much. I have been trying lately to find another, can you direct me?

Janine, I don't know of any direct sales of PTS's, but here's a great start for questions like that: http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=208

Heya,
Followed your link from faunaclassifieds, your skinks are beautiful :) Just looking at one of the pics with Jr and Cutie Pie, and thought I would mention that Jr looks very female in one of them! Ive not been keeping these long (only since last October) so Im not an expert at all, but if I had seen that skink in a shop or something I would have immediately thought "female" based on the picture, as he has a very small head compared to neck/abdomen. Again, could be wrong though!

Jr does have some female characteristics. Luckily he's a confirmed male because he left me a sperm plug in his water dish after an encounter with my confirmed female Cza Baby Doll (see here: http://tinyurl.com/2rp565 ). But thanx for the input, and good luck with your new trio!

Heya :)
I did read that originally, and I agreed with Kisha - however, I spoke to a breeder here in the UK a while ago after I was confused about the sexes of 2 of my skinks (both turned out to be male and had been living together in harmony for a while) and she said that it was possible for females to produce something a bit like sperm plugs in appearance. I have never seen this happen myself and havent heard it mentioned again since, so maybe it is rubbish - certainly we have had enough females around here that you'd think we'd have seen it happen sometime or another lol! But I thought I would float it by you anyways. Good luck with the 2, they look very happy together! My original pair dont seem to like spending much time together - correction, the male would like more social time, but my (possibly gravid) female wants none of it now, lol.

Thanks on the trio, Im picking up some more tomorrow, including a huge Cza that Im pretty sure is female. Fingers crossed it all goes ok!
